Q&A

Q&A

Q: What is Alzheimer’s disease?
A: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common type of dementia. Patients with AD have excessive accumulation of abnormal proteins in the brain, which is accompanied with the massive death of brain cells and brain atrophy, leading to memory loss, cognitive decline, and eventually death.

Q: What are the common symptoms of Alzheimer's disease?
A: Experience memory problems that disrupt daily life, have difficulty in completing familiar tasks, withdraw from social activities, misplace things and/or lose the ability to retrace steps, have troubles in understanding visual images and/or spatial relations, experience changes in mood and personality, have challenges in planning or solving problems, be confused with time or place, experience decreased judgment and logical reasoning, have problems with words in speaking or writing.

Q: Who needs the test?
A: Have family or medical history of Alzheimer’s disease, have family or past history of stroke, have hypertension, hyperlipidemia, or high blood sugar, have experience of memory decline, suffering from cognitive decline, individuals who concern personal health.

Q: Who are not suitable for taking the test?
A: Person in immunosuppressive treatment or pregnancy.

Q: Who do you suggest doing this test?
A: The purpose of early detection is to prevent problems before they happen. Alzheimer’s Disease(AD) has appeared many years before the actual diagnosis. Because of late diagnosed, patients miss the golden period of treatment.
With an early detection of AD, a person can:
Benefit from available treatments – Alzheimer's treatments may provide some relief of symptoms and help the diagnosed person maintain a level of function longer.
Have more time to plan for the future – A diagnosis of Alzheimer's allows families to discuss and plan for care; transportation; living options; financial and legal matters; and balancing work with caregiving duties.

Q: How often should I do a test?
A: Depends on the testing result, we recommend one to three years interval between tests.

Q: Why I never heart about this test before?
A: Our edge-cutting technology were published an article at Alzheimer's & Dementia, The Journal of The Alzheimer's Association at 2021.

Q: How does the PlasmarkAD test work?
A: The founder scientists team collaborated with local hospitals in Hong Kong to collect the blood samples from AD patients and the age-matched healthy subjects. Utilizing the world-leading proteomic detection technology, we compared the protein profiles in the two groups, measuring the levels of >1,100 blood proteins, and screened out 21 protein biomarkers to represent AD characteristics. Therefore, we could combine measurement of blood biomarkers and advanced algorithms to accurately calculate the risk of developing AD.

Q: How reliable is PlasmarkAD test?
A: PlasmarkAD can achieve accuracy above 96%

Q: How does the PlasmarkAD test compare with traditional blood tests?
A: Instead of using a single biomarker for diagnosis, our technology utilizes a protein biomarker panel that covers different biological processes and captures the status of different body systems to detect Alzheimer’s. From our in-house dataset, we found that our biomarker panel outperforms single biomarker test, achieving higher accuracy and earlier detection of AD risks. Meanwhile, this protein panel provides more information of subject's body system than other blood tests, which can greatly facilitate the early intervention and treatment.

Q: Is this test being run in other countries?
